Trigger Point Release
Trigger Point Release is a technique that can easily be incorporated into any session. Often referred to as knots, a trigger point is a painful specific area in your muscle. When pressure is applied the pain can be severe, or refer to other areas of your body. These points can be caused by an array of reasons including but not limited to:
Tight muscles
Poor posture
Inactivity or too much activity
Muscle overuse or injury
Stress, trauma response
This technique must be a collaborative effort. Beginning with sustained pressure to the trigger point, the patient must take a series of deep intentional breaths during which I will check in to make sure the pain is tolerable. Following the pressure, I make sure to softly glide over the area of discomfort then treat the referral area also using soothing massage techniques. It can be an uncomfortable treatment but can provide immense relief.
